Although my time in Hungary was only a few days, I was able to experience a great many areas of Budapest. This city is probably one of the most beautiful I have seen to date. The architecture along with the layout make it a very easy city to move around on foot or by the M1 Metró, the oldest metro on the European mainland built between 1894 - 1896. Being split into 2 halves Buda & Pest make up Budapest divided by the magnificent Danube (the longest river in Europe). From Gellért Hill, The Danube, Buda Castle & Hungarian Parliament Building All the way to Heroes Square I covered on foot sometimes retracing my steps to certain locations for the light to be right for my captures. The city of Budapest is a real splendour and has a very vibrant feel both day and night.
From Heroes Square I took the M1 Metro back to the Danube before relaxing in a nice bistro restaurant close to St. Stephens Basilica, where I enjoyed a healthy serving of Hungarian Goulash (Gulyás). Also nibbling on Lángos (deep fired flat bread) with garlic on top was a booster to keep up my energy whilst walking at least 20-25 kms per day.
As evening approached Ruins Bar was a nice place to have a drink and chat to random people and exchange stories of travels.
”I would like to thank my Hungarian friend Lilla Csuhai for all her thoughtful advice and direction of places to go and food to try. It was a pleasure to experience your nations capital”.
